What is the IEA?

The International Energy Agency is the energy forum for 25 Member countries.  IEA Mmeber governments are committed to taking joint measures to meet oil supply emergencies.  They have also agreed to share energy inforamtion, to coordinate their energy policies and to co-operate in the development of rational energy programmes.

These provisions are embodied in the Agreement on an International Energy Program, which established the Agency in 1974.

Decision of the Council of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development to establish an International Energy Agency.
